A major fire broke out in a prominent building located in the heart of central Delhi, which houses numerous offices. The incident occurred on the ninth floor of the DCM building on Barakhamba Road, close to Connaught Place, around 6:30 pm. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and the fire was successfully extinguished in less than two hours with the help of ten fire engines.
Distressing visuals captured flames leaping out of the windows on the ninth floor, while thick smoke engulfed the floor above. The situation was further compounded as heavy rainfall began lashing the area precisely when fire officials initiated efforts to douse the blaze. In a video of the operation, a water jet can be seen directed towards the building from a fire truck, benefitting from the rain’s assistance in dissipating the smoke.
After a swift response, the fire was brought under control by approximately 8 pm, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the firefighting teams. As a result of the incident, traffic movement on Barakhamba Road experienced disruptions.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire and conducting assessments to determine the extent of the damage to the building and its surroundings. The safety of the structure and its occupants will be evaluated thoroughly before granting access to the affected areas.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety measures and preparedness in buildings, particularly those housing multiple offices. Prompt action by the fire department and the swift deployment of resources played a crucial role in containing the fire and preventing any casualties.
As the investigation continues, it is advised that commuters and pedestrians exercise caution in the vicinity of the affected building, keeping an eye out for any further updates or potential traffic diversions.
