NEW DELHI: In the aftermath of a distressing incident in Paschim Vihar, west Delhi, where a seven-year-old girl suffered a throat injury due to a kite string, the city police have taken action, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals for flying kites.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Harendra K Singh, the seven professional kite flyers have been prosecuted and arrested under section 94/97 of the Delhi Police Act by the Paschim Vihar West police station. The charges were pressed against them for flying kites in a manner that posed a danger, probability of injury, or caused alarm to persons, animals, or property.
The relevant section, 94, explicitly states that no person shall fly a kite or any other object in a way that endangers, injures, or causes alarm to individuals, animals, or property.
The penalties for such an offence include a fine of ₹100.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vinod Sharma (34), Ashish Lopes (34), Sumer Singh Mehta (43), Azhar (35), Noor (28), Harpreet Singh (30), and Abhishek Gaur (26).
