WASHINGTON – In the nation’s capital, a shooting incident on a street resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals, while two others were taken to hospitals for treatment on Saturday night, according to the police.
Around 8 p.m., law enforcement officers swiftly responded to reports of gunfire in the 1600 block of Good Hope Road Southeast. At the scene, they discovered five victims who had been shot.
Tragically, two men and a woman lost their lives, and their deaths were confirmed at the location. Two men were swiftly transported to nearby hospitals for medical care. During a news conference held on-site, Acting Chief Pamela Smith of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police Department provided these distressing details.
The condition of the hospitalized victims was not immediately made public.
Chief Smith strongly conveyed the unacceptability of such gun violence within the District of Columbia. She emphasized that the city is not a war zone and expressed the urgent need for residents to feel safe.
In her plea for assistance from the public, Chief Smith urged individuals to come forward with any information related to this deeply troubling fatal shooting. She underscored the importance of community involvement in addressing the escalating violence within the city, emphasizing that the responsibility cannot solely rest upon the metropolitan police department to determine effective measures.
Washington recently experienced another tragic incident involving mass shooting last month. During Independence Day celebrations in a neighborhood situated approximately 20 minutes away from the White House, nine individuals were wounded.
