For the past month, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg have been engaged in an ongoing conversation about a potential “cage fight,” with the Meta CEO recently chiming in on Threads to discuss the prospect of a physical showdown between the two tech titans.
Recently, on Monday, Mark Zuckerberg responded to Elon Musk’s revelation that their proposed cage match would be live-streamed on the X platform (formerly Twitter). Sharing a snapshot of Musk’s X post on Threads, Zuckerberg remarked that he’s not getting his hopes up for the proposed fight and revealed that he had proposed August 26 as a potential date for the event.
Zuckerberg’s response included, “I’m ready today. I suggested August 26 when he first challenged, but he hasn’t confirmed. Not holding my breath.”
Interestingly, Musk reignited the discussion about the fight through an early Sunday post on X, asserting that the event would be live-streamed on his platform. He also mentioned that any proceeds from the fight would be directed towards supporting military veterans.
Taking a playful jab at the technical glitches that have affected Twitter since Musk’s acquisition of the platform last year, Zuckerberg questioned the reliability of X as a fundraising platform. He mused, “Shouldn’t we use a more dependable platform that can truly raise funds for charity?” This remark came alongside a screenshot of Musk’s tweet announcing the fight.
The origin of this lighthearted feud traces back to late June when the two tech moguls agreed to a playful “cage match” challenge. It all began when Elon Musk tweeted his willingness to participate in a cage match with Mark Zuckerberg, who happens to have a background in jiujitsu. Responding to this, the Meta CEO humorously asked Musk to “send location” for the proposed fight. In turn, Musk suggested “Vegas Octagon,” referring to the arena in Las Vegas renowned for hosting mixed martial arts (MMA) championship bouts.
This back-and-forth between Musk and Zuckerberg has ignited a flurry of discussions on social media, with many users speculating on who might emerge victorious. As of now, the exact timing of the fight remains uncertain. However, if it does indeed come to fruition, the anticipated event could potentially take place at either the UFC Octagon in Las Vegas or the historic Colosseum in Rome, further adding to the intrigue.
