Opposition parties are scheduled to hold their second meeting in Bengaluru on July 17-18, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also called for a meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Delhi on July 18, inviting both old and new allies. So far, 19 parties have confirmed their participation in the NDA meeting.
J.P. Nadda, the BJP national president, has sent letters to NDA allies, including newer entrants like the faction led by Ajit Pawar of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha, inviting them to the conclave.
The NDA meeting, scheduled just two days before the monsoon session of Parliament begins, is not aimed at floor coordination during the session. Instead, it will focus on enhancing coordination among NDA allies in the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, according to sources.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be present at the NDA meeting, which is viewed as a show of strength by the ruling coalition. This is the first time during the second term of the Modi government that such a large-scale NDA meeting is taking place.
With the opposition parties uniting to take on the BJP in the 2024 polls, the saffron party has initiated discussions with its former allies and aims to strengthen its ties with existing partners, rejuvenating the NDA.
