Sunil Kumar Singh, an MLC from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), has been a vocal critic of Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar and the leader of the Janata Dal (United) party. Recently, Sunil made headlines for his heated exchange with Nitish.
On March 25, 2022, when the RJD, led by Lalu Prasad, was a major rival of the JD(U) as a part of the NDA alliance, Sunil took a dig at Nitish’s gesture of greeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the swearing-in ceremony of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He sarcastically remarked that Nitish “bent from his waist” to greet the PM.
Sunil criticized Bihar additional chief secretary K K Pathak, accusing the CM of appointing a select group of bureaucrats to control ministers. He also criticized JD(U) leader Ashok Kumar Choudhary for his political inconsistency, switching from Congress to JD(U).
The tension between Nitish and Sunil reached its breaking point last Monday. Nitish questioned Sunil’s intentions, asking if he planned to join the BJP. This was in reference to Sunil’s meeting with Union Home and Cooperative minister Amit Shah on July 1, in his role as chairman of BISCOMAUN.
