Yashasvi Jaiswal’s impressive performance at the top of the batting order alongside Rohit Sharma during his debut Test series in the Caribbean has been a revelation. The young cricketer attributes his success to the constant communication with the Indian skipper while they are batting together. In the first Test at Dominica, Jaiswal and Rohit shared a remarkable 229-run opening-wicket stand, and in the ongoing second Test, they again provided India with a strong start with a 139-run partnership.
Their century stand in the second Test helped India finish day one at a formidable score of 288 for four, putting the team in a good position for a big total.
“Batting with Rohit bhaiya is truly wonderful. We are always discussing the situation and planning our approach. We had our strategies, and it was an amazing experience to bat with him,” said the young opener, who scored a quick 57 off 74 balls, following his outstanding knock of 171 in the first Test at Dominica, which India won by an innings and 141 runs.
Jaiswal also revealed that the key to his success is learning from everyone’s experience but adapting what best suits his game.
When asked about the advice he receives from legendary cricketers such as chief coach Rahul Dravid, Virat Kohli, and batting coach Vikram Rathour, among others, Jaiswal said, “Every individual has their unique way of conveying things and vast experience. I value everyone’s input, and I try to incorporate what suits my style of play. If experienced players share their thoughts, there’s always wisdom in it, and I enjoy listening and implementing those aspects that enhance my game.”
Regarding his hunger for runs across all formats, the 21-year-old attributed it to his hard work and determination to earn success. He emphasized his commitment to performing well and contributing significantly to the team’s success whenever he goes out to bat.
Despite being disappointed about missing out on back-to-back centuries in Tests after his outstanding 171-run innings in the previous game, where he was named the ‘Player of the Match,’ Jaiswal remained positive. He expressed his willingness to keep learning and improve with each opportunity he gets, focusing on what he can do better in similar situations in the future.
Jaiswal enjoys the pressure and relishes every moment on the field, appreciating the thrill of facing challenging situations and performing under various conditions. He cherishes the opportunity to express himself and contribute to the team’s cause.
