Elon Musk introduced a new logo for Twitter on Monday, aiming to rebrand the microblogging platform. The fresh logo features a white X against a black background, and it quickly started appearing on the web version of the social media network after the official announcement.
Twitter’s CEO, Linda Yaccarino, also confirmed the change by sharing the design and writing: “X is here! Let’s do this.” She even posted a picture of the logo projected on Twitter’s offices in San Francisco.
The decision to transform the social media network into “X” was announced by Twitter’s billionaire owner, Elon Musk, through a series of tweets on Sunday. This move officially replaces the iconic Blue Bird logo with the new X logo.
Musk’s vision for Twitter involves turning it into an “everything app,” inspired by China’s WeChat, a messaging app known for its versatility in allowing users to perform various tasks, from payments to booking flights and hotels. Musk aims to replicate the success of WeChat in China by recreating a similar experience on Twitter.
Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of “X,” outlined the vision for the platform, stating that it would be powered by artificial intelligence and centered around audio, video, messaging, and payments/banking.
In recent times, Twitter has faced mounting pressure since Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform for $44 billion. To address the challenges, the company has made workforce reductions, cost-cutting measures, and policy changes, leading to some frustration among users and advertisers.
Additionally, the launch of Meta’s Twitter competitor, Threads, has added further pressure to Twitter. Threads has attracted millions of users since its launch, and Twitter has threatened to sue Meta, alleging that the company stole its trade secrets when developing the messaging app.
