Passkeys may represent the future of passwords, but for now, two-factor authentication (2FA) remains one of the most secure and convenient methods for safeguarding social media accounts. While many platforms allow users to enable 2FA through both mobile apps and websites, Reddit has limited this functionality to web browsers on desktop.
If you wish to enable two-factor authentication for your Reddit account, the process varies slightly depending on whether you are using the new Reddit interface or the old one. Follow the steps below to set up 2FA:
For the new Reddit interface:
1. Log in to your Reddit account using your preferred web browser.
2. Click on your profile icon at the top right of the screen and select ‘User Settings’.
3. Go to the ‘Safety and Privacy’ tab, then scroll down to find ‘Use two-factor authentication’.
4. Turn on the toggle, and Reddit will prompt you to enter your account password. Once done, the website will guide you through the 2FA setup.
For the old Reddit interface:
1. Instead of ‘User Settings’, click on ‘Preferences’.
2. Find the 2FA option under the ‘Password/Email’ tab.
3. Continue with the same steps as mentioned for the new interface.
After setting up 2FA, Reddit may require you to log in again. From then on, every time you access your account, you’ll need to enter a 6-digit code from your authenticator app.
Keep in mind that since 2FA is tied to your phone, you should disable it before switching to a new device. Additionally, it’s crucial to back up your 2FA code to avoid losing access to your account if you lose the device where 2FA was set up.
